Computer Basics

Preface

In the 21st century, technology is an integral part of everyday life. In today's era, no one can think of living without digital resources. In such an environment it becomes imperative for us to be equipped with skills in this field as much as possible.

Introduction

we have had an introduction to the computer system in the previous article. Now we will discuss the basic functions and devices of the computer system.

Computer System

A Computer system is an electronic device that accepts human instructions(commands) as input, processes, and displays the desired data as output when needed.

As we discussed in the previous article, the main job of a computer is to follow our instructions, access data, and information, process it, analyze it and store it and give an accurate result whenever we need it.

Types of Computer System

Computers may be classified in many ways according to their performance, structure functionality, and subsequent features such as analog, digital, and hybrid computers.
Computers may be divided by size, and form-factor also. such as supercomputers, mainframe computers, and servers.
Desktops, laptops, PCs, and tablet computers are commonly used in offices, schools, companies, and other private and public places.

A computer system has two main parts
Computer Basics: An Introduction

Hardware

Hardware is a physical part of a computer that can be felt, touched, and visualized. Such as:
  •     Input Devices
  •     Output Devices
  •     Storage devices
  •     Processing Devices

        Input devices

Devices through which data and instructions are entered into a computer, for multitasking. There are many examples of input devices, some of which are the following.:
  •  Keyboard
  •  Mouse
  •  Joystick
  •  Scanner
  •  Light pen
  •  Barcode reader
  •  Webcam
  •  Touch screen

    Output Devices

When data is processed, the output device is used to display the output result of the processed data. The following are examples
  •  Monitor
  • Printer
  • Projector
  • Headphones
  • Plotter
  • Speakers

    Storage Devices

storage devices are used to store the data and information in the computer after being processed. some of the following examples are given below:
  •   Hard Disk
  •   Pen drive
  •   CD
  •   DVD
  •   Blue-ray Disc

    Processing Devices

Processing devices basically operate in an intermediate stage to process the input data and then send it to the storage device or output device.
Some of the following examples of processing devices are as follows:
  • CPU
  • UPS
Video cards, Sound cards, Network cards, and Motherboards are also example of processing device.

Software

Software may be classified into three types.
    System Software
    Application software
    Programming software
